flugtag
jeez, darcy! i finally recovered from that whacha-flu-ma-cold-it that was around lately. it sucks when you feel weak, cold, tired, cranky with a sore throat, rumbling tummy, etc. etc. and you want sympathy from the whole world -which you don't get unless you're 5. what's worse, i didn't have a kitchen to warm up soup, make tea, or even stand there, since kitchens supposedly have healing powers. i'm a survivor tho; made it through with medications, blankets, and whining.
since nothing of significance occurred in the past week, i figured it'll be a good time to do a flashback episode. there's a lot to catch up from the missing fall/winter season. :)
picture it. baltimore. october 21, 2006. red bull hosted a Flugtag event. what's that, you may wonder.. i'm not quite sure myself. :-p but the main point of this whole hullabaloo is to fly!
there are teams with up to 5 people (4 pushers and a pilot). they are to somehow build a flying craft, which is pushed off.. into the water. *grin* the judging isn't only based on the distance the pilot and his/her craft travels before hitting the water. creativity is required as well! which makes for funny performances for us all! you can go to the website and check out the teams, including a choo-choo train, enormous folded-paper airplane, flying pancakes, and a grocery cart. there's oodles of pictures and video clips of the event, plus announcements of the next flugtag all over usa.
my most memorable one is of dumbo. the team chased around dumbo as safari hunters. the pilot apparently was a mouse and ran around for a while before hopping onto to this huge paper elephant. the hunters then pushed dumbo toward the edge, hoping it'll fly (yeah right). well, one of dumbo's wheels.. *ahem* um.. got caught in the netting.. and the whole craft literally stumbled and er.. the pilot flew off into the water. but poor, poor dumbo.. *takes a moment* one of his ears got caught at the corner edge and ended up swinging over the water. that was one sad-looking elephant. :(
on a happier note, jaybird and i caught up with casey, one of my fave cousins, afterwards!

one word
i received a mass email the other day. i usually delete those in a heartbeat, but since it was from a dear friend.. *take two seconds to quickly skim through* it got my attention! generally, i try not to contribute to the ongoing chain of forwards that keeps on living and living like a parasite. especially those that ends with "send to 10 friends or -insert a curse here-". i appreciate the thought, but please ix-nay the threat. *smile sweetly*
however, this forward is funny and simple. it asks the recipients for ONE word that best describes the person who sent the email. after doing what it asked, i decided to go ahead and send it to a small group of friends. i got a good chuckle out of it!! their replies included..
quirky
catnip
neurotic
blast
funny
spicy
and a couple of words from jaybird *giggle/blush*
my personal fave came from my mom.. UNPREDICTABLE.
*beams* she's proud of me.
so i recommend this for y'all! please try keeping it to a certain few, 10 people or less, so it doesn't have the "mass forward" feel to it. besides how many people truly knows you, eh? here's the message you should copy/paste into the email..
Here's what I want you to do.enjoy! :)
Describe me in ONE WORD...just one word!Send it to me only, then send this message to your friends and see how many strange things people say about you!
This is really fun! Just hit Reply and send me my one word back. Then forward this message on to your friends (including me) and see what they say about you! GAME ON!!
This will make you laugh out loud.

mission: maxpossible
regardless of how crazy this dog is, i'm even crazier for him. jaybird and i took care of max for the second time last weekend. and he finally learned how to be nice to finlay!! *grin*
i don't know what it is about max, but he's just magical. i seriously think jaybird and i will dog-nap him sometime soon. we have to prepare this mission with such determination and focus. we shall predict potential scenarios, attaching backup information and escape plans. jaybird already has an outline and it goes something like this...
it's 10pm in manassas and max goes out for his evening poo, jaybird's sister will attach him to his zip line... coming from the woods in special forces attire, we will spring through the yard at cheetah speed... max with his ferver for play will sense us quickly approaching and be poised to bark... at which time a 6oz filet mignon will be tossed through the air from our navy seal issued fanny pack and land in front of max's nose... we will unclip max from the line... speed back to the wood's edge... climb fences, cross playgrounds (and do a hopscotch or two), jump over creeks, engage in enemy combat (i.e. tossing more filet migs to neighborhood dogs, who are on the edge of barking and blowing our cover)...arrive at the car and hurry back to dc, with our alibis intact!if any of you see a missing cavalier king charles spaniel on the news, remember..
you know nothing.

betty crocker's coming to town!
renovation news:
jaybird and i don't have a kitchen no more. not that it matters, i mean when have we ever cooked? *chuckles at the thought* although it's annoying to open the balcony door in my pajamas to get the damn cat food every morning.
the demolition started this past tuesday and has been progressing in a timely manner. we should be able to have the kitchen looking brand new in less than two weeks! i've made a sincere promise to appreciate what we've paid to renovate. so.. expect us to try to make food and stuff in the near future.
*squeals*

mad max
he's a cavalier king charles spaniel. yup, quite a prestigious breed and very well-known at dog shows. yet max comes to us drooling, uncombed, and acting all crazy. *grin* he's THAT adorable. for real. jaybird and i had the honors of dogsitting max this past weekend. we were having so much fun that we even forgot to take pictures! (but here's one of him from last year)
isn't he a beaut?! now, i'm not a dog person and you're probably thinking, 'waiiiit a minute.. a dog being all panty and slobbery is a good thing?'. i don't understand it either, nevertheless i bent down to his eye level and gave him oodles of affection. i guess the grossness was.. cute?
max was so. much. fun! i think max is a true city dog, not only because he's fearless of cars, friendly to people, frequently sniffing at metal poles, but also because he likes to poo-poo on the sidewalk! he even squatted down in the middle of the driveway, where a car was about to back out. jeez, isabelle!
sadly, max and finlay didn't get along. even jaybird got hurt in the crossfire. *winces* you see, finlay is tolerant of dogs and gives off clear signals that he's not interested in being your best friend. jaybird and i took care of the pezs' dog in the past, who's a trooper when it comes to cats. vinnie and finlay would eye each other, determine boundaries, then it was one, big, happy family. (a side note, finlay LOVES vinnie's special dog food. *laughing*)
as for max, he hasn't grasped the concept of 'hiss'. :-\
update: it looks like mad max will be staying with us again this weekend!! *squeals* expect another blog entry on him soon. :-p

the vic
i suppose the next blog entry should focus on the highlights since august, however there has been so many. yeah, i lead such a fabulous and positively-chaotic lifestyle. just kidding, but seriously, many of my highlights deserves their own entries. i shall begin with the biggest news.. jaybird and i bought a condo!
i know!! it's like whoa! what just happened here?! *gushes* no, we're not married or anything. although buying a place together is huge. we started glancing through open houses in september and did an unrelenting hunt for the perfect space in october. after falling in love with one place, only to realize it was a brief and torrid affair cuz my one and only true love was the other place. heh heh.
we made an offer. denied. we raised our bid. denied. we made one last plea. accepted!! *jumps for joy*
it's this gorgeous 2-floor condo in the trifecta of adams-morgan, dupont circle, and the u street corridor! in addition to having a courtyard 'a la melrose place' (sans drama), we also have three juliet balconies for shakespearean practices. my parents were great to come down immediately, in the first weekend of november to help paint, clean, and prepare for the move in. many wonderful friends volunteered with moving the boxes, furnitures, and the occasional coat hanger. throughout the whole month of november and december, jaybird and i have been unpacking, painting, cleaning and organizing the whole condo. we're now doing the floor and kitchen renovations, with the bathroom fixer-upper happening in the spring.
i learned that having a home comes with responsibility. *shudders* but let me tell you something.. it's worth it. *smile*
i'll be sure to share a before/after photo album once the place is renovated, which isn't gonna be for another two months or so. *bites lip*
